The exhibition “New York New York. Italian Art: rediscovering America” will be open to the public from April 13 to September 17, 2017. Curated by Francesco Tedeschi, it is sponsored by the City of Milan-Culture, Museo del Novecento and Intesa Sanpaolo – Gallerie d’Italia, in collaboration with Electa publishing house.
The aim of the exhibition is to show through its works the stories of those Italian artists who travelled, lived, worked, exhibited in the United States, particularly in New York, or maybe who only imagined the new world; everybody in search of a more free spirit and in search of models different from the ones belonging to the old Europe.
The exhibition layout unfolds through two museum premises and comprises some 150 exhibits. In particulary, the premises of the Museo del Novecento will present the American imaginary, and in particular the intense relationship with the city of New York as perceived by Italian artists, with works by Afro, Paolo Baratella, Corrado Cagli, Pietro Consagra, Giorgio De Chirico, Fortunato Depero, Tano Festa, Lucio Fontana, Emilio Isgrò, Sergio Lombardo, Titina Maselli, Costantino Nivola, Gastone Novelli, Vinicio Paladini, Fausto Pirandello, Arnaldo Pomodoro, Mimmo Rotella, Alberto Savinio, Toti Scajola, Tancredi and Giulio Turcato. A section apart is devoted to Ugo Mulas’s photographic work in relation to New York and American artists.
